Occasionally we receive reports of database issues during upgrades
due to an old version of database software being used (see, for example,

Upgrades are tested in the gate using the mysql or mariadb version
packaged with any of the Linux distributions supported for that release.
Thus, if you are using an earlier version of mysql or mariadb, you may
want to do additional research before upgrading to make sure you won't
run into an issue caused by us using a newer feature than your database
version supports.
To assist you in this, the OpenStack Technical Committee maintains a list
of the Linux distributions supported for each release on the
